There are a lot of web page hosting companies out there. When I started in the field I used yahoo as many do. I quickly learned my lesson there though. Recently a friend called me up. He wanted to come over because he was having trouble building website for his wife that looked professional. She is a renaissance costumer. He only knows a little HTML and obviously knows nothing about web site development and hosting services because low and behold he chose Yahoo small business.

There are a lot of benefits to Yahoo if you do not know a thing about web design. My friend however is fairly proficient with front page and, where I prefer to code all my sites by hand, he was able to make a decent product. The problem is that he doesn’t own front page currently so he used the yahoo tools. Again the web page hosting service is fine. The problem is that he wanted it to do things it simply could not do. He asked me to take a look at it and the computer generated code was such a mess I didn’t dare touch it. We started from scratch and now he has a wonderful ecommerce website.

Anyway, I got lucky last time I needed to choose web page hosting. All I knew is I wanted to use cPanel. If a company is not offering cPanel, don’t go with them. I use Lunar Pages. They wowed me with their vast array of web site development tools and hosting services. Since I am running a blog, I figured on a lower package. This comes with a directory of scripts, many of which are open source. The major benefit is that they area all one click install. They could not have made it easier and at the same time, I can customize anything I want including my databases.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the other web site development tools this service offers. It is so much more than web page hosting. They offer the latest PHP and MYSQL versions and back versions for people who need it. FTP transfer which is easy to setup and use. Templates, scripts, galleries, etc. Apache 2, PERL, PYTHON, unlimited sub-domains. There are so many things they offer which interface easily into your website, there is no reason to choose another service. Granted I have not tried them all, but I can say very confidently that it is head and shoulders above Yahoo.
