Work at Home on the Computer

Work at Home on the Computer

Many people dream of working from home. I did for a long time. I would tell people, “There is money out there on the internet and I know how to get it.” I suppose that is not the case for all people. For me it has been a fairly easy transition from Corporate America to working for myself at home. There are some major steps that you have to go through before you should consider quitting your job in order to work from home.

  • Learn
  • Test
  • Trial
  • Perform
  • First you have to know what you are doing. I do web content publishing. Basically, I sit at my computer and write content for websites. My income is residual income. It is a share of the advertising revenue for the articles I write. There are many tricks to this trade which I have documented for myself, and for others in my eBook. There are plenty of other ways to workat home on the computer ranging from stock photography to online retail. You simply have to learn the field so you can put it into practice.

Run tests. I would try out a certain keywording technique on a few articles which I would write on the weekends or during my lunch breaks. This is mostly how I learned. The key to working from home is finding out what works for you. Advices is cheap on the internet, but hands on experience is priceless.

Do a trial run. This is different from test in that you have to do a large batch of whatever it is you want to do. If it’s stock photos, get ready to load up 50 of them at one time. If it is writing like me, prepare 20 or so articles to post which all use the same techniques for driving traffic and ads. Then sit back a couple weeks and see if it works. I had to go back to testing many many times and then do a new trial and then back to testing and then a new trial and so on and so forth before I finally found what worked for me.

Performance is key. When you get to the point that you are confident in your skills and your ability to step out and make money on your own, then make sure that you are prepared to perform. I compiled hundreds of writing topics prior to quitting my job. Those get burned through in about a week, but it makes for a great week and then the next week is gravy in comparison.

Last tidbit of advice: Don’t think life gets any easier…well at least at first. You have to work hard, even at home.
